What we Illuminate

Cencode Independent Lighting Design Consultancy was formed in 2003 and since then our lighting design and consultancy work has led to an established client base in both public and private sectors. Over two decades delivering excellence in lighting design for housing developers, local authorities, architects, and planners across the United Kingdom and Ireland; established clients, confident in the knowledge they have a trusted and dedicated lighting design consultant by their side.

Section 38 Street Lighting Design

Our Section 38 street lighting designs are fully compliant with latest British and European standards BS 5489 & BS EN13201, nationally recognised good practice lighting publications and requirements of the relevant local authority. Given our decades of experience working on these type of street lighting design packages , we’ve been able to streamline the process and couldn’t have made it any easier. Our efficiencies are  realised by customers in the form of greatly reduced design fees; Cencode Section 38 street lighting design packages are also inclusive of  site visit costs and liaising with local authority to Technical Approval.

Section 278 Road Lighting Design

Cencode Independent Lighting Design Consultancy have decades of experience carrying out Section 278 road lighting surveys and Section 278 road lighting designs. A Section 278 road lighting design is generally associated with   alterations to existing highway, when geometry or formation of a road junction requires change to meet envisaged increase in traffic movements. Our Section 278 road lighting designs are fully compliant to latest editions IET Wiring Regulations BS7671, BS 5489 & BS EN13201.  Cencode take ownership of the Section 278 road lighting design process, from surveying existing illuminated street furniture on a highway to Section 278 road lighting design and liaising with local authority for Technical Approval.

Solar Powered Street Lighting Design

Technological advances for storing energy in latest lithium-ion batteries and harvesting that energy using monocrystalline solar panels has vastly improved performance and reliability of solar powered street lighting. There’s mistaken belief that the British Isles doesn’t have enough sunlight throughout the year, particularly during winter, to make solar powered street lighting a reality. We’re now carrying out solar powered street lighting designs for many of our housing developer clients, and having ourselves assessed night-time performance, during mid- winter, we found the solar powered street lighting equipment we specify to be quite impressive.

Planning Applications Discharge of Lighting Conditions

We’ve worked with numerous local authorities and their planning officers across the United Kingdom to assess proposed outdoor lighting for planning applications. We review proposed exterior lighting on a planning application and assess if adequately controlled to prevent light pollution and nuisance during night-time. We also advise independent town planners and architects how to  minimise potential effects of obtrusive light from outdoor lighting and ensure compliance to permissible tolerances of GN01/20 and CIE 150: 2017
